The first
week of classes is finally over, and the homework is already starting to pile
up! I’m glad I got a head start on the work for Myth and Folklore! I’ve enjoyed
all the reading and writing for this class so far. It makes the assignments
feel a little less like work to post them in a blog with pictures :)
I’ve
noticed some connections so far only to classes I took last semester. One
course was Latin Love Elegy, so reading the Homer’s Illiad gave me some
background that would have been useful last semester. I also noticed a lot of
psychology concepts in Aesop’s Fables, which makes sense because psychology is
everywhere when people are involved. That’s something that my professor for my
Honors colloquium (Cognitive Science of Fiction) has been reminding our class.
So there is definitely another connection.
My favorite
writing I’ve done so far was my retelling of The Quarrel from Homer’s Illiad.
I’m not sure if it’s really that great, but I had fun writing it. That
episode was definitely the one that stuck out to me in the whole unit. I
immediately pictured the characters as little kids because of the way they were
behaving, so that’s what I based my version off of. I enjoyed both of the
Storytelling posts from Joe and Patrick, and I look forward to reading more
people’s work.
On a
personal topic, Annie got spayed on Thursday. It was very difficult for me to
leave her at the vet for surgery, but she’s home and recovering well. Now if
only she would stop making a mess of her food and water…
I’m looking
forward to the three-day weekend. I plan to go watch the OU basketball game on
Saturday and maybe go see Foxcatcher on Sunday or Monday. Also, I’ll definitely
be doing a lot of homework and probably watching Netflix.
